Senior Manager - Partner-Track
La Jolla, San Diego, CA
$180k – $200k
Mixed Tax
Hybrid
An established middle-market CPA firm with multiple California offices is hiring a Senior Manager for its San Diego area practice, with a genuine path to partner over the next five to seven years as the current partner plans a phased transition toward retirement.
The role
You'd be stepping into a book of business built up over nearly two decades, roughly $2 to $2.5 million in tax fees and around 700 returns, covering real estate partnerships, multi-state work, and high-net-worth individual returns. This isn't a back-office review seat. You'd have direct client contact and ownership of engagements from day one, working alongside a partner who is looking to hand off relationships, not just workload.
The team is currently small, so expect heavy detailed review from the start, with the scope to build out the group underneath you as the practice grows into a true succession plan.
What you'll need
Active CPA license, non-negotiable at this level
Around 10 years of tax experience, comfortable reviewing complex returns without hand-holding
Solid grounding in partnerships, real estate, multi-state, and high-net-worth individual work
Currently employed at a good firm, this is a move for the right opportunity, not an exit from unemployment
Based in or firmly committed to settling in Southern California
Big 4 background welcome if it's from high-net-worth, real estate, or service-industry groups rather than large C-corp work
What's on offer
$180,000 to $200,000 base
Standard 40-hour weeks most of the year, busy season peaks around 60 to 65 hours and eases off before the deadline
Hybrid schedule, 3 days in-office and 2 remote as standard, with flexibility for the right person including adjusted hours around commute
High autonomy, minimal oversight, you manage the workflow and the results speak for themselves
Independent partnership structure, not private-equity owned, so partner equity means real autonomy rather than reporting up to outside ownership
A realistic, discussed timeline to partner as the incumbent steps back over the next several years
If this sounds like the right next move, get in touch to talk through the details.
