Senior Tax Manager / Director
Petaluma, CA
$150k – $220k
Mixed Tax
Hybrid
Most tax manager roles at growing firms hand you someone else's queue and call it progression. This one hands you an actual path to partner, no fixed years attached, and a local leadership gap that needs filling right now. This is an established, multi-state CPA platform built from the merger of several similarly sized firms, with offices across the Sonoma County market. Retiring partners have books that need a home, and the leaders currently running local offices are moving into national roles. That opening is real, not theoretical.
The role
You would run engagements end to end and lead a team, not just review what lands on your desk. Client relationships come with the seat from day one, with the expectation that you grow into a transferring book of business as partners step back. The tax practice is generalist for now, with specialist niches still being built out, so there is room to shape a sector focus if that interests you. Offshore teams handle prep and first level review, which frees you up for higher value work. The firm is actively investing in AI, including a firm wide AI director and a monthly steering committee that takes staff input on new tools. The path to partner is shaped around you individually. There is no fixed years in role requirement, and if partner isn't the goal, a director track with its own scorecard is there instead.
